According to The Green Bay Packers' public financial data, the 32 teams in the NFL brought in 12 billion dollars collectively. This is a 14.3% increase of their income compared to last year's 10.5 billion dollar profit.
The amount of income from the NFL is split evenly among all franchises, however some teams can make more annually due to their success in games, attendance and merchandise sales. For example, The Packers were able to rake in 149.3 million dollars independently from their sponsorships and assorted sources of profit. This was a 9% increase for the team.
According to a consultant from SportsCorp Ltd., The Packers is one of the top 10 teams in term of income. He also added that all teams local income pooled together would be worth as much a 1.5 billion dollars.
However, along with this spike in revenue for the league, costs have raised for the league altogether. Players have begun to demand and receive higher contracts, those reaching the astronomical price of over 100 million dollars.
As for off the field, The league has to manage their expenses for administration expenses as well as their several lawsuits for concussion protocol and other bodily injuries given to players while playing for the NFL.
The NFL doesn't need to have any concern for their income being impacted however. They have multiple television coverage contracts in place and most recently signed a contract with DirecTV that is worth an astounding 12 billion dollars spanning over multiple years.
The NFL continues to have an increase in expenses but have added to their national popularity enough to achieve billion dollar amounts of income for multiple years through several markets at a time.
