Should Athletes Get Paid as Much as They Do?

Athletes get paid due to their athletic achievement, and the entertainment that they provide the fans with. Fans pay to watch these athletes succeed because it entertains them, as well as it gets their minds off the stress in their life. Although these athletes entertain millions of people, they get paid more than most people’s jobs. When it comes to the level of importance, it is clear that a doctor saving someone's life is more important than someone dribbling a basketball up and down a court.

Exercise is essential in everyone’s life in order to stay fit. These professional athletes inspire us to strive for the same goals that they have achieved. Although this is important, it could be done without these athletes getting overpaid. The main question I intend to answer is why these athletes get paid so much, and if there is a solution to them getting paid less.

• Briefly explain why you are interested in studying your topic: I am interested in this topic because I have loved sports for all of my life and I've been confused about why they get paid so much. There are people like doctors and firefighter's who are out their saving peoples lives, while athletes are playing a game and getting paid tremendously higher than most people. This topic sounds interesting because I want to know what the reasoning is behind all of this money.

• The overall question I plan on answering by the end of the project: Do professional athletes get paid too much?

• Sub questions I will need to answer in order to answer the overall question:

In order to solve the overall question, there are plenty of other questions that must be answered before. Finding the average income of doctors, lawyers, teachers, and other important jobs in our society is extremely important. These average incomes need to be figured out so that they can be compared to the average income of an athlete. Also, finding out how many viewers on average watch these sports. This could be compared to the average amount of customers each of these employers of their jobs get.

• My plan of research is to compare different sports and to see which athletes get paid the most.
