Cost to Make vs to Play Video Games

Alonleylife.com

Video games cost $60 currently to buy, and many people are saying it will increase to $70 in 2016. Why do they cost so much? Why don't they cost $10 like they used too all those years ago? Well the best reason for the huge price increase is the fact that it costs way more to develop video games now than it did many years ago.

One example to prove my theory is in the article “Gta 5 costs $265 million to develop and market, making it the most expensive video game ever produced” It discusses how Grand Theft Auto Five costed $265 million dollars to develop, which is more than James Cameron's Avatar at $235 million. The reason it costs $60 to buy a game now is due to the huge budget they have compared to before. And in order for the companies to make a profit on their work they had to increase the price to the new standard of $60 and soon $70.

Another example is in the article “Destiny’s budget nowhere near $500 million” It discuss how $500 million is what Bungie intends to put into Destiny over a few years and using profits from its initial sale. And this is another reason why games are more expensive now, to help pay for the continued development of the game after its initial release.

With this information i can conclude that this is probably the biggest reason for the increased prices to buy video games is video games cost way more to make now than they did years ago, and they had to raise the prices to make a profit on there games.
