How Effective Has the US Government's War on Drugs Been?

  Briefly explain why you are interested in studying your topic:  

After having recently finished watching the new Netflix series Narcos, my interest in the dark world of drug trafficking was heightened. Although, I previously had interest in the subject, I think that this really peaked my interest so I decided this was a good time to try and learn more about it.

• The overall question I plan on answering by the end of the project:

By the end of my project I’d like to find out how out the impact of the US government’s war on drugs has affected drug trafficking. Or, in other words, how effective the war on drugs has been?

• Sub questions I will need to answer in order to answer the overall question:

My main overarching question is one that’s going to have to be broken down into a couple of sub questions in order to find out how effective the war on drugs has been. First, I’d like to find out the history behind and find out what prompted the US to start it. Second, I’d like to find out what impact the war on drugs has had on drug prices and whether or not drug dealers, traffickers, etc. have lost money due to it. I think that another sub-topic I need answered is how has the supply changed due to the war? Are there actually less drugs coming into the US now?

• My plan of research (what specific Library Databases, specific websites, names of authors, people, etc. will I pursue to find the answers to the questions above):

To find information on my topic I plan on using a couple of sources. I think that library databases such as”Global Issues in Context” will be beneficial as they will give me access to good documents on the subject. I will also attempt to find reputable sources via Google for this which will require me to make sure the websites I am using are credible. I may also try to find and use books on the issue.
