Medical Aid in Underdeveloped Countries

• Why I am interested in this topic:  I would like to study this topic because the medical field is something that really interests me. I really want to know and understand how American medical aid affects poorer countries because it would be interesting to see the benefits that nurses and doctors provide. This is important to me because I want to become a nurse someday.

• The overall question I plan on answering by the end of the project: The main question that I wish to answer by the end of the project is: “How do American nurses and doctors benefit underdeveloped countries through their medical assistance, and how are their projects supported?”

• Sub questions I will need to answer in order to answer the overall question:

- What specific organizations contribute to medical aid in foreign countries?

- How are these organizations supported?

- What specific countries are actually receiving assistance?

- In what ways do nurses and doctors help the people who need help in poorer countries?

- What can nurse possibly gain through their experiences?

• My plan of research (what specific Library Databases, specific websites, names of authors, people, etc. will I pursue to find the answers to the questions above): I plan to research current events relating to this topic mainly under the “global issues in context” database to find out how everything functions within these operations. I will also look for stories that have to do with this topic under news websites such as the “New York Times” to provide examples. I will also look for person stories in interviews with nurses who have experienced working with people in poorer countries first hand.
